Sparkle for Research and Education
Welcome on Sparkle’s website dedicated to the company’s offer of cloud solutions designed for the European Research and Education community
Powering the Move to the Cloud of the European R&E Community
Cloud technologies offer powerful tools to the research and education community; with the recent push for online courses and remote learning, cloud-based platforms are more important than ever.
Since 2016 Sparkle works with major organizations that have set up framework agreements and collaborates with various cloud service providers enabling research and education organizations to provision services without the need for time-consuming and costly procurement processes.
In this context, at the end of 2020 Sparkle has been awarded as Google Cloud integrator within the Open Cloud for Research Environment (OCRE) Framework promoted by a consortium incorporating CERN, RHEA, Trust-IT and led by GÉANT, Europe's leading organization supporting the uptake of advanced digital services for the benefit of universities and research entities.
Sparkle and the OCRE Cloud Framework Agreement
The OCRE Cloud Framework is a standardized contractual vehicle and procurement process offering to the R&E community an easy, safe, predictable and controlled modality to purchase cloud solutions and ancillary professional services.
Under the OCRE Framework Agreement Sparkle is Google Cloud integrator and provider of professional services to support the move to the cloud of R&E institutions in 27 European countries. The cloud competence centre activity provided by Sparkle is carried out in collaboration with NOOVLE, the new TIM Group wholly owned centre of excellence for Cloud and Edge computing.
Services are offered in 27 countries: Albania, Armenia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
Cloud technologies provide virtualized computing resources, ranging from compute, storage, database and networking to machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and security. Cloud technologies are accessible via Internet, available on-demand and on a pay-per-use modality and highly scalable, thus representing an ideal solution for academic research characterized by workloads that are either temporary, experimental or subject to unexpected variations.
